One of the goals of Sword Reverie is to bring players into a stylistic fantasy world inspired by JRPG and anime. We want the world to be inviting and breathtaking with a unique art style. At the same time, the different regions are grounded in the reality of real-world biomes and geography. The first step towards building such an environment is for our environment artists to draw up the concepts for the different areas.
However, getting these complex environments built and to maintain good performance in VR, which have high frame rate requirements is an entirely different beast. In our next blog post we will write about how we leveraged the Unity Asset Store and various performance optimization tricks to achieve good frame rate for large complex environments.
